$260

On Wednesday October 1st we finally have insurance again. We've been without since we moved and have been lucky that no one needed to see a doctor.

I suppose Ammon decided that the day needed to be celebrated and remembered for all time and that the best way to do this would be to try to scale one of the pictures that we hadn't quite yet figured out where to hang. Of course he did this with the glass side up and being almost 28 pounds the glass just wouldn't hold. He did this well out of the visual range of the adults and what we heard was a horrible crack followed by an even worse scream from Ammon.

Eric got to him first and then handed him to me where I immediately started for the bathroom. Eric was close behind grabbing first aid stuff as he went. My brother Nathan started cleaning up the glass.

On the way to the bathroom I could feel the drip, drip of blood flowing on my arms. I stuck Ammon and myself in the bathtub because we don't have a counter to speak of and looked at the damage. Along the left side of his foot close to the middle he'd sliced his foot at such an angle that is started very shallow and then got deeper as it went. Over all I'd say it was about an inch long and I'm not sure how deep it ended up.

Eric checked his foot for glass while I held Ammon down and when he felt sure there wasn't any in the cut he handed me a towel to apply pressure. While I applied pressure I told Eric the type of bandage that would be needed (At least something good came of my being a dental assistant all those years. I can remain clam in a crisis and think on my feet). Meanwhile Ethan came home from school which meant all this happened around 11:15 to 11:30 am. I didn't realize just how much blood Ammon had gotten on me until Ethan came into the bathroom and thought I was the one hurt. I looked at my arm and realized that it was covered in blood and I had several good sized spots on my shirt.

After a couple minutes I took the towel off to see how the bleeding was. It had slowed, but looking at the wound Eric and I both quietly thought to ourselves he might need stitches, but we decided to bandage it and see how it went as the day went on. We gave him some motrin and he then sat on his daddy's lap and fell asleep after a little while.

In the end we took him to an Urgent Care because I noticed the more he tried to walk on it the more it bled and when you've got to keep up with your big brother you don't stop. Eric came home early from work and we took him in. As soon as Ethan was through the door he ran up to the first person that looked like a Doctor and declared loudly "Doctor, Doctor, Doctor! Ammon cut his foot!" The Dr agreed it needed a few stitches and placed some gel to numb the skin. Once he was ready they wrapped Ammon in a sheet so he couldn't move his arms or legs. Ammon was not happy. Ethan was upset too when he saw the needle as the Dr started numbing the deeper tissue. Ethan asked me if the Dr was going to kill Ammon. I assured him that he wasn't, that he was going to fix Ammon's foot. Then Ethan got very interested in what was going on. Ammon ended up with 4 stitches and a new fear of Doctors. We ended up paying $260 upfront because we don't have our insurance cards yet, but we're sure we can be reimbursed eventually.

Here's the damage done. these were taken the day after.
